Rules and Protocols for the New American Republic
Based on what you have learned why was there a need for the Founding Fathers to meet at the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention of 1787? What are your opinions about what they were able to achieve over the course of their meetings? Be sure to provide specific examples to support whatever statements you make.

When England finally granted America their independece, there were many problems to be solved. The most important of those problems was the government. Was it going to be federalist or anti-federalist? The Founding Fathers met in Philadelphia to discuss this problem and to come up with a solution.
ReplyDeleteAlthough it took 4 months to come to a conclusion they finally did what was best for the country as a whole. The Great Compromise consisted of the federal government with three branches with each state having equal representation.
I believe that this was a great decision and it was what was best for the colonies, as a new country.
Two questions to ponder Miss Younger: Was independence granted or won? Was it the Great Compromise or elements of the Virginia Plan that created 3 separate branches of federal government? I am glad you were first to respond this week!
ReplyDeleteThe Founding Fathers met at the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention to establish the rules, laws, & rights that we should follow as a country.
ReplyDeleteThe Anti-Federalists didn't want a single government controling them like England once did. The Federalists were in favor of this type of government. The Founding Fathers decided upon The Great Compromise, which gave the states equal representation but i feel were it not for the Virginia Plan & it's Checks & Balances to each branch of the government, we wouldn't have the government we have today because 1 branch would rise to gain more power then the others. Ultimately, it may have taken 4 months but it set the framework for a government that has lasted over 200 years
There was a need for the meeting in the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention because America had recently gained their freedom from British rule. They staged this meeting in order to decide on how to rule the United States. There were 2 main ideas on how to run the country, people who supported the Virginia Plan would want shared power within the government and people who supported the New Jersey plan wanted equal representation in each state. Eventually their differing ideas came to an end in the Great Compromise. This led to the creation of the Senate and House of Representatives. Over the course of the meeting, I think they were able to achieve a great plan in how to rule this country. How they ruled back then hasn't really changed in how we rule now.
ReplyDeleteThere was a need to for the Founding Fathers to meet in Philadelphia Constitutional Convention in order to discuss issues of their government; including the repairment of the Articles Of Confederation. The debate lasted four months due to people who favored states that controlled their own affairs;(Anti-Federalists) and those who felt opposite;(Federalists). The Great Compromise solved the dispute between the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. The Great Compromise or the Connecticut Plan blended the ideas of sharing power within a government while having each state represent itself. I believe the Founding Fathers created a powerful plan that will last for many beyond today.
ReplyDeleteMy beliefs on this meeting are simple. If it had not been for the Founding Fathers there would be not a bit of structure in the countries that lie forth the United States. Nor would there be anything for the foreign countries to feed off of to build up the power of their own countries. All of this is based on the Constitutional Convention, because it was the "MEETING OF THE MINDS". All that were apart of congress expressed what was thought to be needed and determined what was necessary, which made everybody equal in time. This one step of ambition has lasted for years ever since.
ReplyDeleteThere was a need for the Founding Fathers to meet at the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention because they needed to make up a stable government to follow and redo or remake the Articles of Confederation. I believe they acheived their freedom when coming up with a great government which included the Virginia Plan, New Jersey Plan and the Great Compromise.
ReplyDeleteFor them to have a successful country they needed a successful government and equality for all states, big and small.
It was important for the Founding Fathers to meet to discuss the constitutional convention. They had to decide on the type of government suitable for this country. The federalist and the anti-federalist created a compromise so that both parties agree on the same government. I feel that is was a extremely good decision, because everybody would have equal representation, correct laws and etc. Which should last for a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteThe Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia was an important meeting held by our founding fathers , because at this meeting delegates from all 13 states came forward to write up a document that would hold the rules that will govern our nation. at this convention many issues were brought up , New Jersey Plan and the Virginia Plan, New Jersey was a small state and they wanted equal representation, while Virginia being the bigger state wanted representatives based on thier population. they eventuallly came to a compromise and settled for two houses, Congress and the Senate. Our Founding fathers wrote this Constitution with the future of America in Mind and it has lasted for over 200 years.
ReplyDeleteYes there was a need for them to meet. On that day they established rules that are still being followed to this day. The federalists and the anit-federalists came to an agreement(The Great Compromise) which basically ended all their differnces and disputes. They sat down and decided what would be best for this country so we wouldnt end up like all the other countries that had one person with absolute power. One person making decisions whether they benefitted the people of that country or not.
ReplyDeleteThere was a need for the founding fathers to meet at the philadelphia constituational convention in 1787 because the 13 states were now free and owned by no one. Looked at as one nation who had no government, the founding fathers decided to join together and create a government for the whole, eliminating the government being ruled by one person such as a king and going through what had already happened with Britian. What was able to be achieved over the meeting was the repair of the Articles of Federation and a chance to mix the virginia plan and New Jersey plan that gave both large and small states equal power. The 4 month period was also a good way to figure out how to agree and work with the anti-federalist to their needs. This government still stands today and is used in our lives keeping our country running equally.
ReplyDeleteI believe the Founding Fathers met at the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention because they needed to develop a new government. The Articles of Confediration was lacking in strenght. As a new independent country they knew that the Articles would not work for their country. So the delegates of the 12 states excluding Rhode Island met in Philadelphia. To satisfy both the Federalist and Anti -Federalist they used the suggestions of the Great Compromise which was a combination of the Virginia Plan and The New Jersey Plan. Because of this they were able to make strong goverment. A government that is still to this day used. Without the Founding Fathers meeting at Philadelphia, no telling what type of government we would have today.
ReplyDeleteAmerica's independence was won during war and the three elements of the government were actually derived from the Virginia Plan.
ReplyDeleteThe Philadelphia Constitutiona Convention was necessary because at the time the government was running under the Articles of Confederation, which lacked power of central government. For example, the national government didn't have the power to tax.
ReplyDeletei think that the achievements of the men at the PCC were incredible, consdering the amount of time they had and the political views of the country after the Revolutionary War. They were able to make the Great Compromise, the Virginia Compromise, and produce a document that is still considered the greatest constitution ever made.

I have enjoyed the responses each of you has shared immensely. Please encourage those who have not shared analyses to do so. Keep up the good work and diligence. I appreciate everyone's willingness to tackle the challenge of investigating this country's republican roots.
ReplyDeleteThe Founding Fathers met at he Philadelphia Constitutional Convention to make a plan for a stronger central government. Since the people had a difference of opinion on which type of government to use, they decided to compromise. the Great Compromise (or the Connecticut plan) combined the idea of the checks and balances of the Virginia plan and the idea of equal state representation of the New Jersey plan. The concluding result of the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention was the making of the US constitution (as John Sauls stated) is still considered the best type of government in the world.
ReplyDeleteThe Founding Fathers met at the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention because they needed to make stronger government to replace the Articles of Confederation. I believe that they accomplished on making the central government stronger than the one during the Articles of Confederation.
ReplyDeleteI belive the father met to get all opinions out and on the table so that they can agree on what was needed to make the colonies and states have an agreed way to live, such as the federalist and antifedilarist when they were debating wether to have stated governments or have a government bound control over all states and with the convention they made both happy to have a state an government lead.i belive the founding fathers did and amazing with the pcc and they still should continue to be recognized
ReplyDeleteI believe that The Founding needed to meet and tare o how people fel in those days. The Fathers did good giving England their freedom and giving them peace to believa and many of the Englands problems were solved withthe Founding Fathers helping them.
ReplyDeleteThey met so they could come together and be united. Instead of branching off, doing their own thing they decided to come together as a country. They accomplished (sorry if i misspelled) a lot, because our founding fathers made plans for a stronger central government. They also decided that the old way of doing things were out. New Jersey got mad, because they felt that the colonies that had more people would over rule them so they decided to do the 3/5 compromise that involved the slaves.
ReplyDeleteMiss Allred take a look at your response again and decide how best to revise it. You did not clearly state and support your ideas.
ReplyDeleteMiss Kelly you did in fact spell accomplished correctly!
It was important so that they could be organized and know what is next and what they need to do about the situation. Also if someone took over their spots they would know where to pick up at.
ReplyDeleteOnce the founding fathers granted america their freedom they had to. deal with the issues of the government. Many of their other problems were solved because they had been granted freedom.
